Autophagy vs Apoptosis for Longevity
Autophagy vs Apoptosis for Brain Health, Weight Loss, Cancer Prevention
The Alpha Swoletauri System highly endorses Water Fasting. Why? Firstly, some Biochemistry. Amino Acids become Protein. Our cells are made of different types of Proteins. With so many proteins, naturally, some get damaged. Doctors call the cells containing damaged parts Pre-Cancer Cells. Imagine if there was something that you could do that would cause your body to consume all the “bad” cell parts in those cells. What if you could survive off mutated proteins, folded proteins, viruses, organelles, cellular debris, unnecessary parts, etc.? This is Autophagy. It is the body’s recycling bin. Damaged Proteins in….Amino Acids out. It is triggered by lack of nutrients (Water Fasting is one way) If the cell is beyond repair, then its time for Apoptosis. The removal of entire cell.
Autophagy means self-eating. It is the breaking down of junk that is in cells for the survival of the cell and our bodies. It is turning the junk back into raw materials to be reused. This process is always occurring to some degree. For example, Resistance Training will kick on localized Autophagy in the muscles being worked. Blood sends nutrients to the muscle. Then, stored nutrients in the muscle are used. But when there is a lack of nutrients available, autophagy begins in the muscle.
Water Fasting, on the other hand, causes Global Autophagy in the entire body. There is a Global nutrient deficiency. So, our body’s first course of response to keep the brain alive is to produce ketones, burn fat and autophagy. We can do this for many days (5-7). The longer we go, the more “ramped up” the autophagy gets.
For those eating the Lion Diet, a low carb and low glycemic index food plan, Autophagy will begin at the 12-16 hour mark of fasting. If you are not on this type of diet and your insulin levels are high, you take an additional 4-6 hours for Autophagy to begin.
We will focus our attention on Autophagy because our activities can influence it. Exercise, Diet and Water Fasting are great ways to trigger autophagy. Apoptosis is only triggered at the molecular level by identifying cells past the point of repair.
Autophagy and Cancer
Here is an excerpt from the National Health Institute:
“Autophagy is a self-degradative process that is important for balancing sources of energy at critical times in development and in response to nutrient stress. Autophagy also plays a housekeeping role in removing misfolded or aggregated proteins, clearing damaged organelles, such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and peroxisomes, as well as eliminating intracellular pathogens. Thus, autophagy is generally thought of as a survival mechanism, although its deregulation has been linked to non-apoptotic cell death. Autophagy can be either non-selective or selective in the removal of specific organelles, ribosomes and protein aggregates, although the mechanisms regulating aspects of selective autophagy are not fully worked out. In addition to elimination of intracellular aggregates and damaged organelles, autophagy promotes cellular senescence and cell surface antigen presentation, protects against genome instability and prevents necrosis, giving it a key role in preventing diseases such as cancer, neurodegeneration, cardiomyopathy, diabetes, liver disease, autoimmune diseases and infections. This review summarizes the most up-to-date findings on how autophagy is executed and regulated at the molecular level and how its disruption can lead to disease.“
Cancer Prevention
- Removal of Damaged Components: Eliminates damaged organelles and misfolded proteins that could accumulate. These are free radicals. This reduces the risk of diseases such as cancer.
- Prevention of Oxidative Stress: Essential for the biosynthesis of collagen. Collagen is a protein involved in clotting and maintaining the structure of skin, blood vessels, bones and connective tissue.
- Regulation of Cell Growth: boosts the immune system by stimulating the production and function of white blood cells. It enhances the skin’s defense system and helps wounds heal faster.
Tumor Cell Survival
- Adaptation to Stress: Cancer Cells exploit autophagy to survive under stress, for example starvation, hypoxia and chemotherapy. Autophagy provides the building blocks and energy for tumor cells to survive.
- Resistance to Therapy: Therapy can damage cancer organelles and proteins, autophagy helps cancer recover and grow.
- Enhanced Invasiveness: It is possible that cancer is more invasive because of energy and materials from autophagy.
- Immune Evasion: Autophagy can make it harder for the immune system to recognize and destroy cancer cells.
Balancing Autophagy in Cancer Therapy
- Inhibition: In established cancers, autophagy inhibitors are used with treatment.
- Induction: In early stages autophagy can be promoted to eliminate damaged cells.
Autophagy and Weight Loss
- Lipophagy: Breaking down Lipid into fatty acids and glycerol that can be used as energy. This enhances the body’s ability to utilize stored fats.
- Mitophagy: Be recycling dysfunctional mitochondria, metabolic efficiency improves and the body becomes better at burning calories.
- Insulin Sensitivity: Insulin receptors improve which helps stabilize blood sugar levels.
- Appetite Control: Potential better control over food intake by improving the brain (hypothalamus).
- Maintain a higher metabolic rate during fasting due to muscle preservation by utilizing recycled proteins in the muscles.
- Cellular Homeostasis: With cells functioning properly, cells are efficient and this leads to better metabolic health and increases energy burning.
Autophagy and Loose Skin
Autophagy helps to mitigate loose skin during weight loss. By promoting the breakdown and recycling of damaged proteins and cellular components, skin cells are more healthy and elastic. Autophagy removes damaged collagen fibers and supports the synthesis of new collagen. This improves the structural integrity of the skin. By incorporating Alpha Swoletauri practices that enhance autophagy, such as intermittent fasting, resistance training, multivitamins and Lion Diet, you can improve skin elasticity and reduce the problem of loose skin during weight loss.

My real life example…I was lacking Folate. It led to blood clots. It could have led to Stroke, Heart Attack, Heart disease. My doctor could have said no more exercise, ice baths, sauna, your heart can’t take it. Then, 1 micronutrient deficiency could have caused a ripple effect through my body and life. Not only could my heart have been effected, but I then I also couldn’t experience the benefits of exercise, ice baths and sauna.
Conclusion
We are all about prevention with the Alpha Swoletauri Plan. Our bodies are very strong and intelligent and can survive a long time with major problems. We adapt well. Unfortunately, these underlying issue to eventually surface. It is often a big problem by then. We may have experienced things like Bone Weakness, Bleeding, Bruising, Swollen Leg (My real life example). But, we don’t get concerned until those symptoms become Blindness, Heart Disease, Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke, Vascular Calcification.
Most of us don’t run to the doctor for something minor. Something minor probably doesn’t warrant a full blood analysis. So, we figure it out when something major happens, The Stroke. Let’s be smart and beat it to the punch!! Intermittent fast. Get into high level Autophagy. Some biohackers and even doctors believe that a 7 day fast at any point in your life combined with a whole foods diet (Paleo, Lion Diet) will practically eliminate any chances of cancer, ever.
Take the Multivitamin. Get in the Sauna. Resistance Train. Walk. Cold Plunge. Eat the Lion Diet. Water fast. I am a foodie that weighed 305lbs. But, nothing tastes as good as not having blood clots (3) in my leg. Use yours…Nothing tastes as good as not having ___________.
Fat-Soluble Vitamins:
The Alpha Swoletauri System prioritizes multivitamins as part of the Lion Diet. As I’ve mentioned before even when eating a healthy diet, we can be micronutrient deficient. My personal experience led me to having high blood pressure and 3 blood clots in my leg. As I investigated root causes for my conditions, I found that many nutritional deficiencies could effect the circulatory system. These nutrient deficiencies cause a ripple effect in the body and are very hard to pinpoint….Read More…
“Vitamin E is a fat-soluble nutrient found in many foods. In the body, it acts as an antioxidant, helping to protect cells from the damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are compounds formed when our bodies convert the food we eat into energy. People are also exposed to free radicals in the environment from cigarette smoke, air pollution, and ultraviolet light from the sun.
The body also needs vitamin E to boost its immune system so that it can fight off invading bacteria and viruses. It helps to widen blood vessels and keep blood from clotting within them. In addition, cells use vitamin E to interact with each other and to carry out many important functions.“
