MultiVitamin--What is it?

According to  WIKI:  There is no standardized scientific definition for multivitamin.  In the United States, a multivitamin/mineral supplement is defined as a supplement containing three or more vitamins and minerals that does not include herbshormones, or drugs, where each vitamin and mineral is included at a dose below the tolerable upper intake level as determined by the Food and Drug Board, and does not present a risk of adverse health effects.  multivitamin is a preparation intended to serve as a dietary supplement with vitaminsdietary minerals, and other nutritional elements. Such preparations are available in the form of tablets, capsules, pastilles, powders or liquids.

What Got Me Into Multivitamins?

My Series of Unfortunate Events

When I was 43 years old I had not seen a doctor in 10 years.  My doctor retired and I hadn’t ever gotten a new one.  I didn’t ever get sick.  In fact I didn’t even have health insurance for 6 years.  I didn’t see the need considering the cost.  That plan was great until one day my left leg felt weird.  I was at work.  I pulled over my equipment and lifted my pant leg to see a swollen lower leg.  I finished my shift and went home.

That night I propped my leg up and applied ice.  By morning my swelling was down and I went to work.  I work 11 hours shifts standing on a piece of equipment.  Toward the end of the shift,  I was swollen again…a little worse.  I elevated and iced again.  I went to work the next day.

Day 3

I could feel the swelling setting in sooner.  I looked at my leg and saw a fully swollen leg from the knee down.  I was taken back a little, but I had sold health insurance for years and was pretty familiar with health conditions.  I thought for sure I had an infection in leg and just needed an antibiotic.  So, I broke down and made my way to an urgent care center.

Urgent Care Center

I got right in at the urgent care center.  The doctor was great.  I showed up basically requesting antibiotics and she correctly told me that it didn’t look like an infection.  She recommended I go to the hospital straight away.  Based on the redness of the swelling and the warmth, she was thinking blood clot.  I still was thinking infection.  I didn’t even have Covid to my knowledge, and I didn’t get the vaccines (The 2 leading causes of blood clots at that time).  I did have an annoying cough for a couple months, though.

Blood Clots

So, an ultrasound at the ER did in fact confirm that I had a large blood clot in my left thigh.  Doctor’s words, “You are very lucky.  We normally find these in people’s hearts and brains.”  I didn’t feel so lucky.  The clot was labeled “Acute”.  That is the bad kind.  I began taking blood thinners.  I now had to get a family doctor and then a hematologist.

The theory was that the annoying cough was Covid.  My blood work did come back positive for the Covid antibodies.  I definitely had Covid at some point.  Blood Clots are a Covid symptom.  I found a family doctor to accept me.  I got a 90 day supply of blood thinners, so there was time to make all these appointments and do some bloodwork.

By the time I got into the Family Doctor’s office, enough time had passed that he scheduled bloodwork and another ultrasound.  The bloodwork was fine, but he called me after the ultrasound.  It wasn’t fine.  He was changing my medication, because there was a 2nd “Acute” blood clot.  For some reason we continued as is for about 6 months and the hematologist was done with me.

Why I Became Interested in Multivitamins
(My series of unfortunate events..continued)

About a year and a half after my ER visit….During a routine check-up, my Blood Pressure was elevated.  3 months later it was elevated again, so we started a water pill.  The doctor recommended that I get a home BP tester, but I didn’t see the need.  Strangely, my weight did also suddenly jump up to 305!  I thought I’d just lose some weight, and the water pill would help with that and it would be fine.

I began losing weight.  I lost 20lbs, but my blood pressure got worse and we added a pill.  Then 30lbs, but my blood pressure got worse and we changed to a stronger water pill.  I lost 40lbs and my blood pressure got worse.  We increased the other pill.  50lbs off!  And, I had to go to the ER for my blood pressure.  190/120.  My doctor saw me the next day.  We agreed that my weight was not the direct contributor to the High Blood Pressure.

So, at this point, I had 2 blood clots and out of control Blood Pressure with no explanation.  I asked the doc if I could have a clogged artery.  I thought at this point that both conditions were probably a side effect to something.  I no longer thought they were unrelated.  Doc agreed.

What she did…ordered heart tests and sleep study.  What I did…hit the internet for answers.  I also suggested that we do another ultrasound.  I had 2 so far and we found a new clot each time.  It had been a year since my last one.

I had a 3rd blood clot.  All “Acute”.  Back to the hematologist.  I also had a mild case of sleep apnea.  The doc said I could try a breathing machine or just continue to lose weight.  I got the machine.  But, I continued to watch videos about health/human biology.  I was starting to understand what vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc. do.  However, my methods were very inefficient.  I would learn something new and give the remedy a try.  1 at a time.

Here’s what I was doing/taking:

  • C-Pap machine
  • Ice baths
  • Hydrogen water
  • Grounding
  • Resistance training
  • Garlic
  • Magnesium
  • B6, B12, Folate
  • Fish oil
  • Ashwagandha/Super Foods Chew
  • Gilko Bilbao
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid
  • Potassium
  • I took a Prayer Class

Then it occurred to me.  I was discovering one thing after another that could cause circulatory issues due to nutrition.  For example a deficiency in Folate would result in too much homocysteine in the blood, resulting in High Blood Pressure and Clotting.  My new plan…Find a great multivitamin that provides all of the vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids.  Then, I didn’t need to keep trying to discover possible causes one at a time and add a new pill to the long list.  Be Proactive!!

TODAY

Now, I am happy to report that I have dissolved 2 of the clots.  My 3rd clot is now called “Chronic”.  It is much less of a concern as a chronic clot.  First, I prayed for answers.  Next, I spoke to the clots.  Thirdly, I said statements of positive affirmation.  Amazingly, answers quickly appeared.  SO many random videos appeared when I was researching in YouTube.  Always about nutritional deficiencies of some type.  So, I watched and applied what I learned accordingly.  And, the clots quickly disappeared.  I do not expect to have the Chronic clot for life.  Next ultrasound is in 4 months.

Final Conclusion:

We need to be proactive with our nutrition.  Our body’s systems are very complex and 1 slight deficiency can cause a ripple effect in the human body.  In all fairness to doctors, it is hard to pinpoint the exact cause.  What is our responsibility for ourselves….Control the controllable.  Take the Multivitamin.  Eat healthy food.  Get Sunlight.  Move your body.

The reality is 80% of the time we need a Health Coach.  We need to make lifestyle adjustments.  Go after the “root cause” of our conditions.  Not treat the symptoms.  Doctors are trained to Name It, Blame It and Tame It (aka. Sickcare).  My logic however: if a farmer sees a poor crop or a forester/botanist sees bad leaves on a tree or plant, they study the soil.  The leaf doesn’t need a chlorophyl injection.  The ground needs something like more nitrogen.  That is Healthcare.

Below you can read what each Vitamin does.  You’ll see why they are so vital, but hard to pinpoint for health conditions.  That is why this website was born.  I was just a regular person living a regular life and it all changed one day.  It could have ended.  So, its my job to ‘coach’ up anyone that will listen.  You don’t have to figure it out if it is a micronutrition issue…take the multivitamin.

Here is an example of how vitamins effect human physiology...

What are Vitamins and Minerals?

Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients.  They play critical roles in the human body, supporting numerous physiological functions.  While we only need small amounts compared to nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins and fats, their importance  can not be overstated.

Vitamins

Vitamins are organic compounds.  They are vital for regulating metabolism, supporting growth and maintaining tissue and organ function.  Vitamins are classified as either water-soluble (such as vitamin C and B vitamins) or fat-soluble (such as vitamins A,D,E and K).

Water-Soluble

Water-Soluble Vitamins are not stored in the body.  They are easily passed through in urine.  They need to be consumed regularly through diet.  These vitamins play roles in energy production, immune function, nerve transmission, and methylation and synthesis of various molecules essential for cellular function.  For Example, Vitamin C is involved in collagen synthesis, wound healing and antioxidant defense.    Vitamin B is important for energy metabolism and nervous system functions.  If you didn’t already, take a minute to read about both vitamins.  Folate, B12 and Vitamin C are common vitamins to have a deficiency in.

Fat-Soluble

Fat-Soluble Vitamins can be stored in the body’s fat tissues and liver.  They require dietary fats for absorption and are essential for various functions.  These vitamins are stored in the liver and fatty tissues and are released as needed.  So, the body has a reserve if dietary intake is too low.

Click on each vitamin to see what they do and why a deficiency is a BIG problem.  Vitamin AVitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K.  I didn’t even include the additional processes that some forms of the vitamins are involved in.  Being “in balance” with your vitamins is very important.  I really can’t say that enough.  Do not assume that you are getting all your vitamins from eating “healthy”.  40-98% of humans are deficient in Vitamin D depending on their geography and climate.  Yes, that says 98%.

Minerals

Minerals are inorganic elements that are crucial for physiological process in the body.  They are classified into two categories.  Macrominerals are needed in large amounts.  Trace minerals are needed in smaller amounts.

Macrominerals

Macrominerals are essential for bone formation, nerve function, muscle contraction, fluid balance and PH levels in the body.  They include calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, sodium, potassium, chloride and sulfur.

Trace Minerals

Trace minerals are involved in enzyme activation, hormone production, immune function and antioxidant defense.  They include iron, zinc, copper, selenium, iodine, manganese and chromium.

Vitamins and minerals are necessary for your well-being.  Often they work together with enzymes in biochemical functions all over the body.

There are 4 types of multivitamins that I’m continuing to research…Liquid, capsules, tablets and powder/shake/other.  They are the delivery methods that are most prevalent.  I am also considering quality of ingredients, binders/fillers, additional beneficial ingredients, absorption, portability, Calories.  I added Calories. Not because we count calories. but rather because I like to take my vitamins while doing Water Fasting.  Calories and Carbs break fasts.

A Multivitamin is an essential part of the Alpha Lifestyle Plan.  Multivitamins supplement the Lion Diet.  With a quality multivitamin below, you know that you are getting 100% of the vitamins and minerals that your body needs.  This allows you to focus your eating on proteins and fats.

I am speaking from experience.  It is hard to get all of your nutrients from food.  I ate a lot of broccoli, spinach and green beans and still ended up with High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Blood Clots.  That is a very scary way to figure out that there is a problem.  Be proactive.  Avoid the problem.  Plus, you’ll feel better.

2 Ways to Choose Multivitamins

Vitamin D is the most common Vitamin for a deficiency…so, the question is:  Are you going to get a D3+K2 Supplement and a Multivitamin?  This is a budget Question.  The right answer is “Yes”.  But, If you can’t, start with the best Multivitamin for you.

1.  You are not going to buy a supplement for D3+K2.  You want to choose one below with as much Vitamin D and K2 as possible, then.

2.  You are going to buy a supplement for D3+K2.  You want to choose a Multivitamin that is robust in everything else.

Pro Tip:  Your urine may be a bright yellow.  Your body will absorb and store extra fat soluble vitamins, but extra water soluble vitamins will pass through your digestive system and be filtered in the Kidneys.  It is normal.

Consult Your Physician

Always consult your physician before making dietary and supplemental changes.

Ethan’s favorite sport is football.  He was good at football from the beginning.  His career started in 2nd grade with flag football.  Then he played pee wee football in 3rd – 6th grade.  Even at those young ages he had great vision of the field and a nose for the ball on defense.  However, he was not big.  Ethan was the same size as all the other running backs and linebackers in pee wee football.  Read More…

My family has been using grounding mat, grounding sheets, grounding pillow case and grounding blankets.  Several of us suffer from sleep apnea.  I get up at 3:00am Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  We all have small children (except my Mom, lol).  So, sleeping is an issue across the board in all of our houses for one reason or another.  It didn’t take a lot of convincing for me to get everyone to try it out.  We have found that we are sleeping better and in some cases longer every night.
