Ethan Weber--Muscle Growth Stories

Ethan’s favorite sport is football.  He was good at football from the beginning.  His career started in 2nd grade with flag football.  Then he played pee wee football in 3rd – 6th grade.  Even at those young ages he had great vision of the field and a nose for the ball on defense.  However, he was not big.  Ethan was the same size as all the other running backs and linebackers in pee wee football.  So, here begins Ethan’s muscle growth story.  He knew that he had to get to work to be really good at his favorite sport.

Ethan Weber Muscle Growth Stories--Middle School Years

Fortunately, Ethan’s high school had an excellent weight training program.  Beginning in 6th grade, students could workout at the high school either right before (6:45) or right after (3:15) school.  Ethan, being a 3 sport athlete, lifted every Monday, Wednesday and Friday before school.  There were several keys to his early success.  The biggest key is that he always lifted to failure.  It was a tremendous advantage that he was lifting with very good athletes in the 2 grades ahead of him.  There was an excellent environment.  The kids all worked really hard and pushed each other.

Ethan Weber was very interested in weight lifting.  He spent a lot of time watching and learning on YouTube.  He put a major focus on diet starting in 6th grade.  Ethan ate eggs before his workout and a protein bar after.  He did not officially track his protein, but he made an effort to consume protein with each meal.  In 7th-8th grade Ethan added protein shakes to his routine.  The shaker bottle became his best friend.  So, now he is eating eggs pre-workout, drinking a protein shake post-workout and eating a protein bar as a snack later in the day.  By the end of Middle School, Ethan has started to stand out.  He has separated himself from the rest.  He has the most muscle mass.  He is also the strongest.

Protein Shakes have played a crucial role in Ethan’s muscle growth story.  While he didn’t understand the science behind muscle protein synthesis , he did understand the need for quality protein after workouts.  Here is the protein Ethan uses.  If you’d like to learn more about Crazy Nutrition 100% Tri-Protein…..read more.

Now it was time to get serious.  Ethan was excited to learn that weight lifting was available as a gym class 5 days /week 1st period in the high school.  Ethan could go to school 30 minutes early.  That gave him time for a full hour workout and shower.

In 9th grade Ethan added CREATINE and AMINO ACIDS  to the supplement regiment.  So now Ethan is 14 and he is supplementing his diet with Protein, Creatine and Amino Acids.  All 3 supplements occur naturally in the body.  Ethan is not taking caffeine.  He continued this plan through 10th grade.

There are 2 kinds of workouts that Ethan does in high school.

Workout 1

1 is a 10 week plan.  It includes bench press, deadlifting and squatting.  There are additional cross fit type movements like pull-ups and burpees.  Week 1 has sets of 10 reps.  Week 2 has sets of 9 reps…all the way down to a final week max with a single rep.  This workout was intended to be used for in-season athletes.

Workout 2

The other workout was a higher weight and lower number of reps type of workout.  It is designed to maximize strength increases between seasons for the athletes.    Ethan did this workout in and out of season.

Finally, Ethan Weber continued with his current diet in 11-12th grade.  He did, however, add Pre-Workout.  So, Ethan’s diet had a lot going on.  He got up and had breakfast.  Typically breakfast was some toast and eggs.  Then, he made a drink of Pre-Workout, CREATINE and AMINO ACIDS.  Next, he made a protein shake to take to school and drink after his workout.  Finally, he had a protein bar for a snack.

The 3 most important factors in Ethan’s Muscle Growth Story are Consistency, Working until Failure and High Protein Diet.

Ethan is currently training to go to Lafayette College to study Biology and play football.

My story has 2 parts.  I was in high school in 1991-1995.  I played football and baseball.  Baseball was my love.  As  you can see, I have a football build though.  lol.  I was lucky enough to have a great football coach who believed strongly  in weight training.  Lifting weights was just begining to become popular for athletes outside of football in the ’90’s.  Barry Bonds, Mark MacGwire and Sammy Sosa were infamous for their body transformations.

I started hitting the gym in 7th grade.  I worked out 3 times a week all the way until I graduated high school.  I saw very minimal results from grades 7-11.  In 11th grade my bench was only 200.  I weighed 220.  I took no supplements.  I had no focus on my diet.

Finally in 12th grade, the muscle growth began.  In august of 1994 I benched 225 during football camp.  By June of 1995 I benched 315.  When I arrived at college, I benched 350.  By the end of my sophomore year in college, I benched 405.  I was playing baseball in college.  I followed Mark MacGwire closely.  He claimed to be taking androstenedione.  It was a legal supplement at the time, so I did take that my sophomore year of college.  I had never taken any other supplements.  My weight was up to 240.  My bench was over 400.  I maintained that for the next 5 years.

Then life happened.  I started a family.  I got married.  I started having children.  I no longer prioritized things like working out, hunting or golf.  I spent that time either working or with my family.

And…I spent it eating!  Lol.  16 years later and I weighed 302 and benched 200.  Not Good!  However; my son, Ethan, needed someone to help push him.  He was stronger than everyone in the high school.  So, it was time for Dad to get back into it.  In 2019, I joined a gym.

The gaines felt slow at first, but they came.  This time I am taking Protein, Creatine, amino acids and eating a high protein diet.  My weight is down to 266.  My bench is up to 400.  I am able to help push my son.  His bench is up to 350.  He’s still behind the Old Man!  I am currently starting a cut cycle.  My target weight is 240.  I do a pyramid lifting program with the bench and 3 set of 8 on all ancillary movements.  Here is an example of my bench workout.  Warmup set of 8 with 135, warmup set of 8 with 185, warmup set of 8 with 225, heavy set of 8 with 290, set of 6 with 315, set of 4 with 340 set of 2 with 370.  You can do an optional burn-out set with 315 to failure afterward.

The year is 1991.  I am 18.  I find myself in New York City, NY.  There are no cell phones, internet.  This is my first time in the Big Apple.  My dad thinks I’m on a wild goose chase–a setup for disappointment.  I’ve come all this way because of the advice of a man I barely know, Neil Berkeley.  Neil recruited me onto a bench pressing team….
